Abstract:

This study examined the social effects of the Corona pandemic on behavior and social values in Saudi society through field research in the Hail region. It sought to monitor the study population's level of knowledge of the Coronavirus and the sources of information about it, and to assess its members for its origin and degree of severity Then, an attempt to know social behavior through the degree of their adherence to precautionary and preventive measures, to explore the extent of the pandemic's impact on their psychological state and social relationships, and to identify the social values most important to them in light of the effects of the pandemic. The study concluded with a set of conclusions, particularly the presence of a high degree of knowledge of the virus, and that official sources ranked first in information sources about the pandemic, followed by social networks. The study population was characterized by a high level of adherence to and commitment to the precautionary and preventive measures. Their psychological state ranged between feeling reassured, feeling anxious and fearful, with a low level of indifference. The study also revealed an increased awareness of the importance of the family and the stability of relationships within it, despite the emergence of some tensions that may be due to the pressures and restrictions imposed by the pandemic. In addition to that, the values of safety, health and family were at the forefront of the ranking of the major values among the sample members, followed by the values of good deeds and success in life as intermediate values, and the value of freedom and enjoyment of life retreated to the last arrangement. The conclusions of this study are consistent with the findings of studies completed in the same period. By linking these conclusions with the approved theoretical background, it was possible to reach a general conclusion according to which the behavior of the sample corresponds to the characteristics set by Max Weber of the rational action pattern, and to consider the social values that directed this social act as values that fall under the category of continuity and stability according to the Shwartz model. The study concluded with a set of recommendations that support health media and support community partnership for prevention.
