Abstract:

The armistice period is an important period covering the years 1918-1922. At the time of the armistice, the thoughts of the Istanbul governments and the counter-rhetoric of the defense lawyers clashed and new problems occurred. In this process, Ismet Bey (Inönü)’ s thoughts and discourses were discussed in the article. Especially October March 30, 1918 – March 16, 1920, covering the years from the signing of the Armistice of Mondros to the occupation of Istanbul, Ismet Bey's activities in Istanbul were examined. This was a very dark process for Ismet Bey, who spent his days in Istanbul and was subjected to Allied pressure. So much so that the lack of hope for salvation, the fact that he was thinking of retreating into a corner, showed the seriousness of Ismet Bey's situation. In time, the struggle under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Pasha in Anatolia would inspire him and he would quickly get out of this mood.
Ismet Bey first moved to Anatolia in early 1920, and together with Mustafa Kemal Pasha, they made very important decisions for the history of the national struggle. Although he stayed away from the developments in Anatolia or seemed to be so, as soon as he arrived in Ankara, he soon became the foundation for all the events. The day after he arrived, he started working at Mustafa Kemal Pasha's headquarters. After Fevzi Pasha became Minister of war in the Istanbul government, Ismet Bey was sent to Istanbul by Mustafa Kemal Pasha to continue his current work in Istanbul. After the occupation of Istanbul, he moved to Ankara and was appointed by Mustafa Kemal Pasha to a very important position, such as the Chief of the General Staff.
