Abstract:

For many decades, Morocco has been distinguished by its openness to various world civilizations, embodying an exemplary model of coexistence among diverse ethnic communities. From its earliest steps on Moroccan soil, the Jewish community has not only been protected but also encouraged by the various dynasties that have succeeded in power, emphasizing the crucial importance of Hebrew heritage in the country's rich cultural tapestry. The Judeo-Moroccan register, with its multiple nuances, represents an essential pillar of Judaism and has deeply influenced language practices within the Hebrew community in Morocco. Our contribution aims to shed light on some linguistic specificities at the phonetic level, examining a sample to better understand these distinctive characteristics. Our approach essentially relies on the study of two linguistic features of the Judeo-Arabic dialect of Fes, namely, Lisping and hissing.
