Abstract:

Water storage tanks of all kinds played an important role in supplying water to the cities of the Eyalet of Algeria during the Ottoman era, especially in the face of the increasing population and urban expansion witnessed by the various beyliks, and in light of the development of various craft industries such as tanning, pottery, baking, and construction, The need for this type of industry has increased. Religious institutions, military barracks, baths, and kush have become in need of reservoirs, in order to fend off the dry seasons and prevent the spread of diseases and epidemics. The development of fetching and storage techniques played a major role in the expansion of urban activity, but most of the studies focused on springs and water delivery channels in particular, which made us shed some light on water storage tanks, and the development of water storage facilities and construction techniques in Algeria during that period.
