Abstract:

Eskigediz as a county of the city of Kütahya has moved approximately 7 kilometers northwest after the 1970 earthquake. The major factor in preserving the traditional houses is the transportation of the residents to the center now called as Gediz with the decision taken after the earthquake. As a dwelling abandoned to its destiny the traditional structure of the town remained free from ascending trend of ferroconcrete in architecture. At the same time the street formation, building cluster and squares, the comprehension of traditional dwelling and lifestyle also has been preserved. The decisions taken by the relevant institutions and foundations have provided Eskigediz with the quality of being one of the scarce examples of traditional dwellings and preserved town structures of Anatolia to this day.
