Abstract:

 Aim: To assess psychosocial variables including self-esteem, depression, anxiety symptoms and academic achievement in a selective sample of preparatory school students. Participants: This is a school based cross sectional study. The sample consisted of all students in the preparatory stage in a private school of both sexes, age ranged from 12-15 years. The sample was divided according to the academic performance of the student based on the overall grade of each student at the end of the school year into: Insufficient <60%, Sufficient 60-70%, Good 70-80% and Very good >80%. Method: All students were given a questionnaire to assess personal data, family background, past history of medical or psychiatric condition, scholastic achievement and psychometric tools: including Porteus maze, Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory, Children Depression Inventory (CDI) and, the Children’s Manifest Anxiety Scale. Results: The higher the grades of students, the higher the level of anxiety and this was statistically significant. Girls had higher levels of anxiety than boys and this reached a statistically significant difference. There was significant correlation between depression and academic achievement of students. Self-esteem was significantly correlated with academic achievement. Conclusion: Depression has a significant role in academic performance of adolescents. Self-esteem of adolescents is highly related to their academic achievement.

 تعد المراهقة من أخطر المراحل التي يمر بها الإنسان ضمن أطواره المختلفة، ومكمن الخطر في هذه المرحلة التي تنتقل بالإنسان من الطفولة إلى الرشد هي التغييرات في مظاهر النمو المختلفة (الجسمية والفسيولوجية والإجتماعية والإنفعالية)، ولما يتعرض فيها الإنسان إلى صراعات متعددة ، داخلية وخارجية. تتراوح نسبة انتشار الإضطرابات النفسية والمشاكل السلوكية بين أطفال المدارس بين 10 و 20% ومن الممكن. إعتبار الإضطرابات النفسية والسلوكية من المؤشرات المهمة على صحة النمو العقلي والسلوكي والعاطفي والإجتماعي يضاف إلى ذلك وجود ارتباط وثيق بين ظهور هذه المشاكل من ناحية وبين القدرة على التحصيل الدراسي من ناحية أخرى الهدف من الدراسة: دراسة العلاقة بين أعراض القلق والإكتئاب وتقدير الذات والأداء الأكاديمي للطلاب في المرحلة الإعدادية. الطريقة: أجريت الدراسة على طلاب المرحلة الإعدادية لإحدى المدارس الخاصة، وتم تقسيمهم إلى 4 مجموعات وفقاً لأدائهم الدراسي والذي قد قيس وفقاً لدرجاتهم في آخر العام الدراسي إلى : كاف ، غير كاف ، جيد ، جيد جداً. أدوات البحث شملت: -استمارة بحث نفسي واجتماعي, مقياس القلق, مقياس الاكتئاب, مقياس كوبرسميث لتقدير الذات. النتائج: 44.8% من العينة لديهم قلق متوسط، 28.2% لديهم قلق مرتفع.22.1% لديهم إكتئاب منخفض ،7.4% لديهم إكتئاب متوسط، 2.5% لديهم إكتئاب مرتفع. 44.8% من العينة لديهم تقدير الذات منخفض. وجود فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية في العلاقة بين أسلوب معاملة الوالدين للأبناء الذي يتسم بالتفرقة في المعاملة ومن ناحية أخرى أسلوب المعاملة الذي يتميز بالإعتدال وجمعه بين الحزم والحنان والأداء الأكاديمي للطلاب. وُجد إن نسبة القلق عند الإناث أعلى من الذكور وذلك الفرق كان ذو دلالة إحصائية. وجود فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية في العلاقة بين الإكتئاب والأداء الأكاديمي للمراهقين.وجود فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية في العلاقة بين تقدير الذت والأداء الأكاديمي للمراهقين.
