Abstract:

This study aims to reveal the extent of the involvement of practitioners in the archival field in research processes and the level of scientific collaboration they establish with authors of different profiles, particularly researchers. As part of the study, a total of 219 articles published in five national journals The Archival World, Information and Documentation Studies, Information Management, Hazine-i Evrak Journal of Archival and Historical Researches and Library, Archive and Museum Research related to the archival field were examined in terms of author characteristics. Authors were separated and analyzed according to specific categories researchers, practitioners, students, and other authors. Practitioner authors are divided into archivists and librarians. The categorization and coding studies can be observed on the data of the research that is open to access. The findings of this study were evaluated and compared with the findings related to Turkish Librarianship and Information World journals previously presented in the national literature. According to this; it has been observed that the five examined journals appeal to more practitioners compared to the Turkish Librarianship and Information World journals. The proportion of articles written with the contribution of at least one practitioner in the five examined journals is 22.37. The proportion of articles created with the authorship contribution of archivists in the related journals is 10.95 N219. Among these journals; The Archival World, Information Management and Hazine-i Evrak Journal of Archival and Historical Researches and Library journals stands out in terms of the publication rate of articles by archivists compared to other journals. It was found that archivists who collaborate with researchers in only 0.91 of the articles did not establish any collaboration with historians, who are significant researchers in this field, in any publication. When the journals examined within the scope of our study and the Turkish Librarianship and Information World journals are considered together, it was determined that a total of 30 articles by archivists were included in seven journals. This figure represents only 4.15 of the articles examined in the seven journals N722. Based on these findings, it has been perceived that the contribution of archivists to articles and research collaborations remains limited. It has been considered that various responsibilities and tasks fall upon journals, academic departments in universities, and the institutions where archival practitioners work in order to enhance the contribution of practitioners in the archival field to research processes. Various responsibilities and tasks have been considered to be incumbent upon journals, academic departments in universities, and the institutions where archival practitioners work in order to enhance the contribution of practitioners in the archival field to research processes. The diversification and increase of studies on the subject can create an awareness among archivists to conduct research and publish. This awareness is important for establishing an effective research-practice relationship in the field of archiving.
