Abstract:

 


This study has been prepared in order to reveal the literacy status of the population living in
Eskişehir province according to the census years in the Republic Period and the education status
according to the latest (December 31, 2020) TURKSTAT data. Accordingly, when viewed in terms
of the first objective of the research, the people in Eskişehir has always had a higher literacy rate
compared to the average literacy rate of Turkey. According to the latest TURKSTAT data, when the
educational status of the field is considered, it is (among 81 provinces) seen that it ranks 74th in
terms of the rate of illiteracy and 81st in terms of the rate of those who can read and write but
do not complete a school, 43rd in terms of primary school graduates, 79th in terms of secondary
school graduates, 3rd in terms of high school graduates, 4th in terms of faculty or college graduates,
3rd in terms of the proportion of graduate graduates, and 3rd in terms of the proportion of
graduates with a doctorate degree. Accordingly, it is possible to say that as the education level
increases, the research field moves to the top of the list in the country. Having an advantageous
special position, having a developed industry, attracting people working in creative professions,
the suitable physical geography conditions, the high rate of urbanization, the high socio-economic
development level, having good net schooling rates, having three universities, being developed
in terms of health services, and to be rich in social, cultural, and artistic aspects are the things
that make Eskişehir one of the leading provinces of the country in terms of educated population.
However, when looking at the education data of the research field in terms of gender, it is seen
that women are in the background compared to men. This shows that the dominant patriarchal
social structure in the country is seen in the field as a sample.

Bu çalışmanın amacı, Eskişehir ilinde yaşayan nüfusun Cumhuriyet Dönemi’nde sayım yıllarına göre okuryazarlık durumunu ve en son (31 Aralık 2019) TÜİK verilerine göre de eğitim durumunu ortaya koymaktır. Buna göre araştırmanın birinci amacı açısından konuya bakıldığında, Eskişehir ilinde yaşayan nüfusun okuryazarlık oranının daima Türkiye ortalamasının üzerinde seyrettiği görülmüştür. En son TÜİK verilerine göre eğitim durumuna bakıldığında ise sahanın (81 il içinde) ülkede; okuma yazma bilmeyenlerin oranı açısından 74., okuma yazma bilen fakat bir okul bitirmeyenlerin oranı açısından 81., ilkokul mezunlarının oranı açısından 43., ortaokul mezunlarının oranı açısından 78., lise mezunlarının oranı açısından 2., fakülte veya yüksekokul mezunlarının oranı açısından 4., yüksek lisans mezunlarının oranı açısından 3. ve doktora derecesine sahip olanların oranı açısındansa 2. sırada yer aldığı görülmektedir. Buna göre eğitim seviyesi yükseldikçe, araştırma sahasının ülkede listenin en üst sıralarına doğru çıktığını söylemek mümkündür. Eğitimli nüfus açısından ülkenin önde gelen illerinden birisi olmasında Eskişehir’in; avantajlı bir özel konuma sahip olması, gelişmiş bir sanayiye sahip olması, yaratıcı mesleklerde çalışanları kendisine çekmesi, dağlık ve engebeli arazilerinin az olması, şehirleşme oranının yüksek olması, sosyo-ekonomik açıdan gelişmişlik seviyesinin yüksek olması, net okullaşma oranlarının iyi olması, 3 tane üniversitesinin bulunması, sağlık hizmetleri açısından gelişmiş olması, sosyal, kültürel ve sanatsal açıdan zengin olması etkilidir. Ancak bir de cinsiyet açısından araştırma sahasının eğitim verilerine bakıldığında ise kadınların, erkeklere nazaran geri planda kaldığı da görülmektedir. Bu da Türkiye’de egemen olan ataerkil toplumsal yapının, bir örneklem şeklinde, sahada da görüldüğünü göstermektedir.
