Abstract:

Cinema was one of the areas that were given importance and wanted to be developed during the Atatürk period, and cinema was seen as a tool for the establishment of the new regime and revolutions. The fact that it is not necessary to know how to read and write to be a movie audience and that it can reach uneducated audiences has brought cinema to the fore. On the other hand, in the Republic of Turkey, which was established after the War of Independence, the important turning points of the National Struggle were accepted as national holidays and the celebration of these holidays was seen as an opportunity in many ways. It was emphasized that common pains were passed and a common struggle was carried out during national holidays, and the feeling of national unity and solidarity was desired to be established. Again, on the occasion of these days, it is aimed to bring people from all classes together and to adopt the holidays by all classes. During the Atatürk period, when great celebration ceremonies were organized in the capital Ankara, cinema was included in the celebration programs within the possibilities. Particularly during the National Struggle period and the development of the Republic of Turkey, it was requested that the limited number of films made reach a larger audience during the holidays. This aim has been tried to be realized especially with the cinema activity of Ankara Peoples House. In this study, the role of cinema in national holidays will be discussed from different aspects such as the films shown in the celebrations in Ankara, the filming of the celebrations, the cinema works of the Peoples House.
