Abstract:

Al-Qubaisiyat is one of the largest Islamic womens movements in Syria and has become a transnational network that has spread to Arab countries and the world. The article aims to study the forms of connection between the Qubaisiyats foreign branches and the main center in Damascus. The research relied on interviews with a number of Qubaisiyat, as well as some secondary sources. Social network analysis was used as a theory to understand the spread and interaction of Qabisiyyat beyond borders. The research found three main outcomes of the patterns of connection between the branches and the headquarters: organization and internal policies structural relationship, way of working, education and spirituality books, association with Damascus and Munira al-Qubaisi, and funding wealthy influential people and the government. The research shows that Qubaisiyyat as a crossborder network has its own specificity stemming from the strength of its organization in Damascus and its use of the same working mechanism in the branches, while at the same time it has its own specificity that corresponds to its organization in each country in which it operates, as it constitutes a transnational social field.
