Abstract:

Atatürks work in the field of education started during the years of the National Struggle. Therefore, this study, which analyses the educational policies and developments in vocational and technical education in Atatürks era, starts with the period of the Committee of Executive Deputies established with the opening of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey TBMM. The nine government programmes formed after the proclamation of the Republic are also examined within this framework. The emphasis on vocational education in educational policies is discussed and the efforts made for the development of vocational and technical education in this period are analysed. The aim of this study is to reveal the contributions of the studies carried out between 1920-1938 to todays education policies and the development processes of vocational education. It can be said that the education policies of the period were carried out in order to show the necessary attention to the Turkish nation, which was worn out by years of wars, and to ensure the continuity of the principles of the Republic by educating Anatolia. It is seen that Atatürks ideas and thoughts significantly influenced the education policies of the period. Between 1920-1938, efforts to train professional staff in accordance with the realities and conditions of the country led to the establishment of a national vocational and technical education system.
