Abstract:

Analysing mining, glass ceramics and the fabric patterns of a society in its historical perspective makes it possible to define the social identity of that society through symbols. However, there is a point that should not be overlooked; there are reflections of the visual spirit of nations carried to the present, that is, motif memories. The aim of this study is to answer the question should the past be searched only in written sources; or can healthy data be obtained by reading through the symbols used by each society, which are complementary elements of their historical adventures. When the motif memory is analysed, it can be seen that these symbols often repeat each other, while there are also differences that are the result of the dynamics of social or political life. If memory means tracing and the history of weaving can be traced back to Central Asia, this study, which tries to show that the memory of Turkish culture can be traced through motifs, will make the Mamluk State phase more understandable as a step of the discovery of cultural heritage in general. This study on the history of the fabric is not only for the Mamluk state, but also because of its interactions with the states related to it in some way in the process extending to the present day, the expression memory is included in the title of the study. As it is known, from a historical point of view, motifs have spread to the world more rapidly. The legacy of the Mamluk State, which was nourished by the global contributions of the Mamluk State in this context and left through the Ottoman Empire, has taken its place in world history. In the first part of the research, information about the inventory on the history of motifs in the Mamluks is given, and in the other sections, certain materials containing motifs are analysed and evaluated within the framework of the findings. Since the subject of architectural motifs is much more comprehensive and will be evaluated in a separate field of study, it is not included in this study.
