Abstract:

It is almost too obvious to state that the year 2020 was heavily marked by COVID- 19. Almost all of humanity hunkered down in their homes to sustain a living of no school, no friends, and no close contact. Within such an atmosphere, children living in different parts of the world came to share the same broad experience. Against this shared background, a book by Liane Schneider, “Conni macht Mut in Zeiten von Corona”, was penned in German. Subsequently, it was translated into Turkish under the title “Elif Korona Günlerinde Cesaret Veriyor”. Parallel to this, the award winning internationally acclaimed illustrator undertook the illustration of a different book on the coronavirus, “Coronavirus A Book for Children”, which was also translated into Turkish under the title “Koronavirüs Çocuklar için Koronavirüs Kitabı”. This descriptive study, comparing the target texts against the source texts, aims to reveal the translation strategies such as addition, omission, substitution and the reasons behind these strategies. The paper argues that the pandemic measures taken in the target culture and the image of the child aimed to be created through translation in the target culture play central roles in the translation of these two books.

Böyle bir ortamda, Liane Schneider “Conni macht Mut in Zeiten von Corona” adlı kitabı Almanca kaleme aldı.
