Abstract:

Gender norms are determined by religion and politics, which also shape society. Since the state and the power of God function in this sense, Platos dialogues and St Pauls letters can be examined in this context. The study examines the position of women in Platos dialogues The Republic and The Laws, which Plato presented in the context of the search for the ideal state, and in the letters of Paul, which are among the most important texts of Christianity. The rules for women in the texts of these two figures, who helped to shape the social order, were identified as the problem of the study. In Platos works, gender equality is mentioned in the class of the guardians, but not in society as a whole. In Paul, on the other hand, equality is limited to faith, otherwise social assumptions are maintained. In the texts of both figures it can be seen that there is an attempt to control women and female sexuality in order to establish social order. The study interprets the texts comparatively, assuming that these sources influence the way of life of all humanity in terms of the continuity of interaction between societies over centuries.
