Abstract:

In this study, we will examine the representation in the literature of the Moor in the 16th and 19th centuries, the first century marked by the promulgation of edicts against the moor and the obsession with blood purity. The constant presence of the image of the other ( which could be Islam, Moorish, Saracen or Turkish), in Spain literature dates back to the late middle age, when Spain among other European countries, faced an Arab civilization, muslin in fall territorial, religious and cultural expansion. Thus contributing to the reinforcement of the image that was health of him in the popular and the collective imagination. It is necessary to specify here that the stereotypes about the moor have been subject to different political-historical changes they have varied over time. Said perception of the other generally vacillated between a romantic and attractive image of an impossible and non-existent ideal of the noble moor from Granada and that of the unfaithful, savage, traitorous and murderous moor witch we are going to deal with in this treatise.
