Abstract:

 Abstract
This study investigates the equivalence gap in translating Quranic euphemistic expressions from Arabic into English by analysing eight prominent English translations available on [Quran.com](https://quran.com). Employing a qualitative comparative approach and content analysis, the research draws on a comprehensive corpus of 918 Quranic euphemisms compiled at the University of Leeds to systematically categorise expressions related to sensitive topics such as sexual relations . Grounded in formal and dynamic equivalence frameworks and informed by pragmatic translation theory, the study examines how literal translations ensure semantic precision but often sacrifice the pragmatic, culturally embedded tone of the original text, while dynamic approaches better preserve both the pragmatic function and the euphemistic nuance—although sometimes at the cost of explicit clarity. Although the findings provide valuable insights into translation strategies, limitations include the restricted sample size (focused on select verses) and the absence of empirical reader reception data. Future research is recommended to incorporate interdisciplinary methods and broader data sources to further refine translation practices.
