Abstract:

In this article, the role of the Banū Hanīfa tribe in the apostasy events that began during the time of Prophet Muhammad pbuh and gained momentum after his passing has been emphasized. During the emergence of Islam, some large tribes such as the Banū Hanīfa lwere residing in Yamama, located in Central Arabia. With the spread of Islam in the region, Banū Hanīfa also declared that they accepted Islam. However, especially during the severe illness of the Messenger of Allah before his death, groups that did not recognize the current authority in Medina emerged. Sociological factors such as intertribal rivalry and economic reasons such as avoiding giving zakat were effective in the emergence of these groups. These reasons are also in the background of Musaylimas claim to prophethood, who is a member of the Banū Hanīfa. The Banū Hanīfa also stood behind Musaylima with the same motives and fiercely resisted the Muslim army that reached the region. Although he claimed to be a prophet during the time of the Prophet, the main struggle with Musaylima took place during the period of Abu Bakr. Khalid b. Walid and his army were sent against Museilime, which was getting stronger every day and the number of people it affected was increasing. As Musaylimas influence and followers grew, Khalid ibn Walid and his army were sent against him. In the Battle of Aqrabāʾ that ensued between the Muslims and the followers of Musaylima, the Muslims emerged victorious.
