Abstract:

Literary criticism is a sub-branch of the science of criticism. In literary criticism, a literary work is examined from different aspects. These criticisms can vary according to time and culture. This issue is directly related to the reader's expectations from the text. Texts that do not meet the expectations of the society in general are criticized heavily. Humor is the strongest element used in criticism in this way. Güleryüz newspaper, which was published as a total of 122 issues between 5 May 1921 and 14 August 1923, is a political, literary and humor newspaper. In this newspaper, published by Sedat Simavi, the Greek army and Greek politicians were mocked, thus aiming to gave morale to the Turkish army and nation In addition, the names in Turkish politics and literature that are against the National Struggle or remain indifferent have been criticized in a heavy and sarcastic language. Yahya Kemal and Ahmet Haşim are the names who got the most share from these criticisms. The reason for the criticism of these two great names of Modern Turkish Literature is that they are indifferent to the National Struggle in their works despite being very strong poets. On the other hand, such as Yakup Kadri and Halide Edip, who both supported the National Struggle in their works and in bodily, names and works were mentioned with praise and respect. However, some works of these names also have not been able to escape criticism.
