Abstract:

The significance of measurements in the Jewish legislation lies in the fact that they are related to many legislative regulations, included in the two main sources of Jewish legislation, the Old Testament and the Talmud where a wide range of measurements are mentioned. This research aims to identify the types of measurements in the Jewish legislation in general and in the Mishnah in particular, to understand the provisions relating to measurements of length or area in general that were added by rabbis. It also aims to classify these measurements and clarify their origins in Jewish legislation; whether authentically Jewish or taken from the people they lived amongst. Finally, the study aims to identify the most important legislative regulations relating to measurements, whether they have to do with contractual matters, worship or daily transactions.
