Abstract:

Emir Timur has an important place in Turkish and world history. He went on many expeditions during his reign and some of these expeditions lasted for years. As a result of these campaigns, which were created with detailed planning and intensive preparations, Emir Timur managed to defeat all his rivals by conquering Khwarezm, East Turkestan, the lands of the Golden Horde State, Azerbaijan, India, Iran, Iraq, Syria and Anatolia. He destroyed the important centres of the states he considered as his enemies and brought the dignitaries, scholars and artisans living in the regions he conquered to his capital Samarkand. Emir Timur, who left behind a great empire when he died, owed this success to the military methods he used during his campaigns. Thanks to the strategies he employed before, during and after his campaigns, he remained undefeated throughout his reign and managed to take his place in history with the empire he established. In this article, Emir Timurs war strategies are analysed in the light of literature sources.
