 يهدف البحث الحالي إلى ضرورة تنمية أعضاء هيئة التعليم مهنياً من خلال عدة مؤسسات منها الأكاديمية المهنية للمعلمين، والوقوف على مستوى معرفة هؤلاء الأعضاء بالأكاديمية وأدارها، والكشف عن واقع قيامها بتلك الأدوار من خلال ممارساتها في ظل أهدافها واختصاصاتها المعلنة، ثم تحديد العوامل التي تعيق أو تيسر قيامها بأدوارها، ثم وضع مجموعة من المقترحات لتفعيل دورها في ضمان تحقيق مهنية أعضاء هيئة التعليم، واعتمد البحث على المنهج الوصفي بأدواته المختلفة من اختبار واستبانة، طبقت على (390) معلماً، وتوصل البحث إلى عدة نتائج منها: تدني مستو معرفة عينة الدراسة بالأكاديمية المهنية للمعلمين وأدوارها واختصاصاتها، فمن بين (390) مستجيباً حصل (9) مستجيبين فقط على عشرة درجات من (12) درجة وهي الدرجة الكلية، وهذه نسبة منخفضة جداً وغير مقبولة، وأظهرت العينة أن أكثر من (57.2%) من الممارسات المتوقع والواجب القيام بها من جانب الأكاديمية تحققت بدرجة قليلة، مما يؤكد القصور الشديد من جانب الأكاديمية في القيام بأدوارها، وقد أجمعت العينة على أن إيمان عضو هيئة التعليم بضرورة تطوير أدائه المهني وتقبله للنقد والتفاعل مع الآخرين، وأيضاً وجود كوادر تدريبية محترفة ومعتمدة ومشهود لها بالكفاءة في عمليات التنمية المهنية أكثر العوامل المؤثرة، وانتهى البحث ببعض المقترحات لتفعيل دور الأكاديمية منها: إعداد وتأهيل العاملين بالأكاديمية على فنيات التعامل مع أعداد المعلمين الكبيرة، مع إيجاد نوع من التعاون الحقيقي بين الأكاديمية ووحدات التدريب بالمدارس في تقويم أعضاء هيئة التعليم بشكل دوري.
                  The present study aims at underlying the essential role played by the Professional Academy for Teachers to provide teachers with learning opportunities and experiences in order to develop their professional performance. Also, it underlines how far teachers have knowledge about the clearly stated goals of the Academy, its roles, activities and action plans in real context. The present study pinpoints out the factors that either facilitate or hinder the vision and mission of the Academy. In light of collected data, suggestions and recommendations are made to fill the gap between theory and practice and to activate the expected outcomes from the academy. The present study adopts the descriptive method of research design and implements a test and a questionnaire on three hundred and ninety teachers. The study outlines the following conclusions: Only nine respondents scored ten out of twelve in the test measuring their knowledge about the academy, its goals, roles and specializations. This indicates the low level of awareness and knowledge about the academy. The sample shows that more than (57.2 %) of the expected practices and outcomes of the academy are achieved with a very low level. Thus, it can be said that there is a critical gap between what is planned and how it is implemented in real context There was a consensus on the importance of the intrinsic motivation of teachers who believe that it is not too old to learn and those who are open and flexible for different kinds of feedback. There was another consensus on the availability of highly qua fl/led cadre of trainers within the educational system - itself They should be given opportunities to be an active part in the whole process of professional development. The study provides the following suggestions: The staff at the Academy should receive a specific training on how to train teachers in large groups. Also, there should be a link between the Academy and the training units- at schools to. maintain sustainable professional development for teachers.
