Abstract:

In the current social movements a collective identity is produced and actively used in order to achieve the goals of the movements. Especially in paralel with the developments in communication technologies, the social media plays a crucial role with its properties like spreading the information swiftly, low costs, availibilty of anonimity, easy membership and providing public sphere for the virtual communities. However, it is stated that the resource mobilization theory which is used to interpret the social movements does not give importance to collective identity in an adaquate way. Nevertheless, the collective identity is prominent also for this theory. In order to support this argument and show the effevtive role of social media in collective identity, ‘No Terorism Yes Brothership’ movement has been examined under the light of resource mobilization theory. Moreover, it has been observed that the collective identity of the movement was produced through social media. In the research; the data reached from the announcements on the official internet site of the movement and the sharings of he members in the social media accounts has been evaluated qualitatively by using discource analysis.
