Abstract:

The vernacular houses in the Sırt District of Rizes İkizdere Tozköy have been organized in line with the needs of a people who built their lives on husbandry at past. However, todays lifestyle causes changes and transformations that will damage the vernacular character of it. In the study, besides the determination and documentation of the housing typologies in the settlement, the physical transformation; it is aimed to determine the spatial, functional and material building component and furniture dimensions. Due to findings from the site work, the changes determined and transferred to the table with the help of symbols and mathematical data then the holistic dimension of the transformation has been reached. Within this scope, spatial changes are concentrated in the kitchen 88 and balconies 64, it is necessary to add a chimney 85 and kitchen countertops 70 to the kitchen as functionality also it is observed that the material changes are mostly the roof covering 94 and on the wall 91 of soup kitchen. Also that changes or additions have been made in the transformation of vernacular houses regarding todays needs, which will damage the buildings character of the vernacular landscape by deforming the façade character and mass effect of it.
