Abstract:

TAbstract: Many factors such as social, economic, ideological, religious, demographic, etc. can be effective in the shaping of political preferences. The effect extent of these factors may differ from society to society or from individual to individual. This study aims to determine the effect of the conservative identity of the parties on shaping the politıcal preferences of youth. The scope of the study consists of people between the ages of 18-30. In the study, which was designed as a quantitative study, a questionnaire was used as a data collection tool. Within the scope of the study, an online survey was conducted with 1557 people. In the study, which was designed in two parts, in the first part, after the theoretical approaches to voting behaviors were discussed, the factors affecting voter behavior were examined. In the second part of the study, the findings obtained by the survey were evaluated. The collected data were analyzed via SPSS 21. As a result of the study, it was determined that the religiosity/conservatism factor has a limited effect on the formation of young people's political preferences. It has been seen that the behavior of young people making political preferences is consistent with the principles of rational choice theory. On the other hand, it has been determined that the attitudes of young people towards the relationship between religion and politics are in the direction of “religion and politics being separate”, which is expressed as a liberal approach.
