Abstract:

The aim of this study is to describe teachers’ thoughts about teacher accountability at a private school. This study was designed as a case study in order to examine teacher accountability in detail at a private high school. The study was conducted in the 2013-2014 Fall and Spring terms at Private Hedefim High School. The participants of the study included 15 teachers, 6 students, 3 administrators and 3 parents. According to the result of the findings obtained in research, teachers carry increasing, diverse and intense academic and social responsibilities. In this study, teacher accountability stemmed from the strong demands and internal accountability system in school. Teacher accountability can be defined as the process of monitoring, evaluation and consequently rewarding or penalizing the teachers, depending on the expectations of administrators, students and parents, and fulfillment of commitments arising from the annual contractual obligations of teachers.
