Abstract:

It is a known fact that suffixes have an important place in Turkish. Derivational suffixes among these suffixes are used for the formation of new words and various meanings from the words. This situation has continued in an order in the course of the history of Turkish language with a little change. This is also valid for +sAk, -sAk suffixes. These suffixes have undergone some changes in terms of both meaning and structure in the course of time. In the beginning, they were suffixes which formed noun from noun and now they are also added to verbs directly due to deletion. Thus, a new function for the suffixes, the formation of noun from verb, has emerged. From this point of view, the formation of compound +sAk, -sAk suffixes, examples that contain them, how they are used in different periods of Turkish language, what kinds of words they form by being added to nouns and verbs, and whether they exist in grammar studies in the periods of Turkish language or not were discussed in this study. In addition, examples from works belonging to the historical periods of Turkish language, studies being conducted on these works and current grammar studies in terms of the usage of the suffixes were presented.
