Abstract:

This study aimed to explore the effectiveness of employing drama and dramatic techniques in psychotherapy, particularly in addressing the symptoms of psychological trauma among populations affected by crises and conflicts, through a comparative analysis of several Arab and foreign studies on the subject. The research adopted a descriptive-analytical comparative approach.
The findings indicated that therapeutic drama contributes to reducing anxiety and depression while enhancing social cohesion. Role-playing and symbolic interaction within sessions facilitate the reconstruction of traumatic experiences and the safe release of suppressed emotions. Foreign studies highlighted the application of structured therapeutic models, such as psychodrama and role-play therapy, within rigorous scientific frameworks, whereas Arab studies emphasized the educational and social dimensions of drama as a means of emotional release and adaptation support.
The comparative analysis revealed cultural and methodological differences. The study concluded that therapeutic drama represents a promising approach for supporting mental health and treating trauma effects, recommending the development of a unified Arab protocol grounded in scientific evidence and the promotion of collaboration between mental health professionals and artists to design integrative therapeutic programs that respect cultural and social specificity.
