Abstract:

This study aims at understanding the various aspects of the issue of unemployment in the Palestinian society in terms of its types, causes and impact. It also aims at recognizing the key characteristics of unemployment whereby proper solutions and recommendations will be set in order to solve the problem of unemployment in the Palestinian society.
The most important outcomes of this study are as follows:

Indeed, there are many reasons behind the continuity of unemployment in the Palestinian society but the main cause of it is due to the Israeli authorities that impel severe policies on Palestinians such as closure and siege policy. Another critical source of unemployment is attributable to Paris Economic Protocol which has made the Palestinian economy dependent and reliant on the Israeli economy.

The lack of investment funds and aid up to the Palestinian National Authority effectively contributed to the growing phenomenon of unemployment in the Palestinian society.

The increase in the unemployment rate in the Palestinian society contributed to the lower standard of living in general and worsening poverty among the working class in particular, and also contributed to the wastage of a large part of the economic resources of the Palestinian society.

The crucial recommendations of the study were as follows:

It is essential that the successive Palestinian governments cope with the issue of unemployment seriously based on careful planning and not arbitrarily.
The Palestinian government should work at full speed on the abolition of the Paris Economic Protocol between the Palestinian National Authority and Israel and put an end to economic dependency of Palestinian economy on Israeli economy.
Encourage and support small projects in the Palestinian society because it helps in the treatment of the problem of unemployment effectively.
It is necessary to make full coordination between universities and the requirements of Palestinian labor market in order to set the outputs of university education in Palestine identical with the needs of the Palestinian labor market.
