 As a result of rapidly growing population, the need for natural water resources is increasing. While increasing water demand leads to depletion of natural water resources, the corresponding increase in amount of wastewater causes pollution of the remaining natural resources and deterioration of the quality of fresh water. Therefore, to prevent pollution of freshwater resources, it is crucial to use existing water resources wisely and reuse wastewater. Recycled wastewater can be used for irrigation of parks, sports facilities and highways, as well as for fire-fighting, particulate emission control in construction sites and concrete production. This study focuses on the use of effluent of a membrane bioreactor treating municipal wastewater as mixing water for concrete production. To evaluate the conformity of this wastewater, the fresh and hardened properties of the cement mortars produced, such as consistency, setting time, density and strength development, were monitored. The initial and final setting times of the samples produced with wastewater deviated less than 25 from those obtained from samples produced with distilled water. A fluctuating trend was observed between the compressive strengths of the specimens produced with different water types, however, in evaluation made according to TS EN 1008 demonstrated that the normalized compressive strength of the specimens produced with wastewater was above 90 at both 7th and 28th days. Following these results, it was concluded that wastewater used in the study has potential as mixing water for cementitious systems, but this conclusion should be supported by additional research including durability and reinforcement corrosion tests.

 Ülkemizde ve Dünyada hızla artan nüfusun bir sonucu olarak, doğal su kaynaklarına olan ihtiyaç artmaktadır. Artan su talebi doğal su kaynaklarının tükenmesine yol açarken, buna mukabil artan atık su miktarı da kalan doğal kaynakların kirlenmesine ve özellikle tatlı suların kalitesinin bozulmasına neden olmaktadır. Bu nedenle, tatlı su kaynaklarının kirlenmesini önlemek için mevcut su kaynaklarının akıllıca kullanılması ve atık suların yeniden kullanılması gerekmektedir. Geri dönüştürülen atık sular parkların, spor tesislerinin ve otoyolların sulanmasının yanı sıra yangınla mücadele, inşaat alanlarında partikül emisyon kontrolü ve beton üretimi için de kullanılabilir. Bu çalışma, şehir atık suyunu arıtan membran biyoreaktörün çıkış suyunun beton üretiminde karma suyu olarak kullanımını araştırmaktadır. Bu atık suyun uygunluğunu değerlendirmek için öncelikle üretilen çimento harçlarının kıvam, priz süresi, birim-hacim ağırlık ve dayanım gelişimi gibi taze ve sertleşmiş hal özellikleri araştırılmıştır. Geri kazanılan su ile üretilen numunelerin priz başlangıç ve bitiş süreleri, damıtılmış su ile üretilen numunelerden elde edilenlerden 25ten daha az sapma göstermiştir. Farklı suçimento oranları ve kür koşulları etkisi altında geri kazanılan su, damıtık su ve musluk suyu ile üretilen numunelerin farklı yaşlardaki basınç dayanımları arasında dalgalı bir trend oluşurken; TS EN 1008e göre yapılan değerlendirmede geri kazanılan su ile üretilen numunelerin damıtık su ile üretilen numunelere göre normalize basınç dayanımının hem 7. günde hem de 28. günde asgari 90lık limit değerin üzerinde olduğu görülmüştür. Elde edilen bu sonuçların ardından, çalışmada kullanılan suyun çimento esaslı sistemlerin karma suyu olarak potansiyel taşıdığı, ancak bu çıkarımın dayanıklılık ve donatı korozyon testlerini de içeren ek araştırmalarla desteklenmesi gerektiği sonucuna varılmıştır.
