Abstract:

The civil war that erupted in Syria in 2011 brought along a global migration crisis. By hosting 3.7 million displaced Syrians, Türkiye sets an example to the whole world. However, it would be misleading to expect this process to be perfect, as it is still an ongoing experience. In this article, the city of Kilis and its experience of forced migration in the last ten years have been scrutinized and subjected to a general evaluation. The evaluation was mainly based on the individual observations and experiences of the authors of the article, who spent all or a significant part of the forced migration process in Kilis. In addition, the findings of various research in the field of migration and especially those focusing on Kilis were taken into consideration. In the analysis, the authors' observations regarding the field were described in the light of the findings of previous research on Kilis and its experience with forced migration. All in all the article aimed to provide a comprehensive insight into the impact of the mass migration on the demographics, economy, cultural and educational life of Kilis, and come up with recommendations as to what should be done to improve the situation.
