 المدارس العربية هي أول نظام تعليمي أجنبي تعرف عليها شعب نيجيريا في إفريقيا الغربية، وقد عرفت العربية في المنطقة قرونا قبل الإتيان إليهم الأوروبيون بثقافاتهم وحضاراتهم وعلومهم، وكانت العربية هي المفتاح الوحيد الذي به فتح المثقفون النيجيريون الأوائل باب مهارتي القراءة والكتابة، وعن طريقها أيضا ابتكر بعضهم كتابة لغاتهم المحلية بالحروف العربية، ولذا حظيت العربية باحترام كبير وحب عظيم لدى الشعب النيجيري، وتم تأسيس مدارس ومراكز ومعاهد لتعليمها لدى أفراد وجماعات منذ زمن قديم، ثم الحكومات النيجيرية في الفترة الأخيرة. والعربية في اليوم في البلاد تدرس في جميع المؤسسات التعليمية الخصوصية، والحكومية على المستويات المختلفة، وكان الهدف الأول من تعلمها في العصور الأولى التمكن في الفهم الصحيح لتعاليم الدين الإسلامي الحنيف، ثم تطور هذا الهدف في العصر الحالي إلى الهدف الثقافي والحضاري والاقتصادي حيث يرمي إلى اكتساب مهارات اللغة في جميع نواحيها لإعطاء دارسيها فرصة استعمالها لغة حديثة متطورة تفتح لهم نافذة واسعة للاطلاع على العالم الخارجي. وعلى هذا أصبحت العربية في نيجيريا تنافس غيرها من اللغات الأجنبية الراقية. ومن الملحوظ أن خريجي المدارس العربية والمتخصصين فيها حتى في المراحل العليا لايزالون في نظرة ازدراء من قبل أصحاب الثقافات الغربية، ولا يحظى معظمهم بمرتبة سياسية أو إدارية عليا إلا القليل من القليل. لذا جاءت هذه الدراسة للنظر في هذه المشكلة وتحليلها تحليلا أكاديميا يأتي بنتيجة تقلل هذه المشكلة. وقد نسج الباحث على منوال المنهج الوصفي في جمع المعلومات وتحليلها، كما اعتمد على المقابلات الشخصية والاستبانات المعبئة الإلكترونية والورقية. ومن النتائج التي توصلت إليها أن العربية هي اللغة الأولي التي تثقف بها النيجيريون، وأن حظ العلماء بالعربية في سياسة البلاد ضئيل جدا، وأن النظام السياسي وسلوك السياسيين السيئ مما دفع العلماء إلى ابتعادهم عن السياسة. وأخيرا قدمت الورقة توصيات واقتراحات تقلل من هذه الظاهرة وتدفع عجلة الثقافة العربية الإسلامية في نيجيريا إلى الأمام.
                  The paper focuses on the Arabic schools (the first form of non-native school) that brought education and enlightenment to the people of the area known today as Nigeria. It was through these schools that the people learnt reading and writing competencies which enabled them to write their local languages with Arabic letters. As a result, Arabic language earned the respect and love of the populace. Individuals and cooperate bodies have long been establishing centers and institutes where Arabic language is studied. The Nigerian government has also since followed suit. Meanwhile, Arabic language is studied today in private and government institutions at various levels. The coming of colonization with its oppressive policy and unjust educational system changed the tune of affairs and the products of the Arabic schools became strangers detached from the society and are unable to completely integrate and effectively participate in the administration and governance of their fatherland. This phenomenon among other ones are factors of writing this article. The historic and descriptive methods so also questioners and interviews were applied to uncover some facts about the topic. Some of the findings of the work included: The first formal school that brought education and civilization to Nigerians is Arabic school. The curriculum followed by most of Arabic schools that produced scholars have a great contribution in the none-participation of their products in the governance of their country. many specialists of Arabic and Islamic Studies are discriminated against, as they could not be integrated into the ruling elites in Nigeria. Many suggestions and recommendations that capable of minimizing the problems are stated.
