Abstract:

Jarīr ibn ʿAṭiyya al-Tamīmī d. 110728 ? was among the most well-known Arab poets of the Umayyad Period. It is possible to say that Jarīr, who is known for his praise and satire poems in Arabic literature, was among the few greatest poets of the Islamic Period, considering the voluminous poetic legacy he left behind and the wide recognition he has achieved. This academic study aims to focus only on the analysis of Jarīrs naqāʾiḍ flytings. Therefore, due to the limitations of the article, it is planned not to give any detailed information about the poets comprehensive biography or his activities in other poetic themes, apart from the brief information given in the introduction. The method adopted in the study aims to prove the arguments through the poets odes. For this reason, within the scope of this paper, it is planned to translate and analyze two naqīḍas of Cerîr in their full form. Jarīrs naqāʾiḍ occupy an extremely important place in classical Arabic literature. Therefore, it is extremely important to examine these poems through concrete examples. The primary source of this research is the classical works recording Jarīrs naqāʾiḍ with his rivals and the poets dīwān. In addition, modern academic studies on the subject will also be used. In this study, it is planned to select the samples based on Jarīrs two naqīḍas, one targeting al-Farazdaq and the other al-Akhṭal You may find an extended abstract of this article after the bibliography..
