Abstract:

Due to its location, resources, climate and potential, the city of Diyarbakır has played an important role in the civilization-building adventure of humanity. This city has come to the forefront more than the surrounding settlements as people settled down and established powerful states. In historical records, it is understood that the great states struggled to have this city in various periods. The construction, expansion, elevation and fortification of the Diyarbakir castle by many civilizations are an obvious expression of the fear of losing the city and the effort to dominate the city. The castle, which is the symbol of the story in which these worries and efforts are kneaded, is one of the few examples in the world. Despite being one of the rare examples of its kind, this castle, which has been the subject of many researches and still remains a mystery, could not see the value it deserves and only took its place in the World Cultural Heritage List in 2015. In this study, the details of the shape of Diyarbakir castle, which has been the cradle of many civilizations, and its legends about the castle will be emphasized.
