Abstract:

American democracy is based on the American constitution, rooted in the Declarations of Independence and Human Rights. In this constitution, which made the 13 colonies a nation, the term from multitude to unity is used because the people who make up America come from various parts of Europe and the world, and it is emphasized that pluralism is the basis of America. During his presidency, the 45th President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, made many anti-pluralist rhetoric that contradicted this concept of plurality-to-unity in the US constitution. With the end of the presidency of Donald Trump in January 2021, the necessity of evaluating the traces left in the history of American democracy, especially in terms of the relationship between populism and pluralism, has emerged. This study aims to examine the theory of populism on the basis of us and them, within the framework of critical discourse analysis, by presenting examples of Donald Trumps discriminatory discourses about the American people, which is a heterogeneous society.
