Sharjah has a unique identity as a modern city that retains its Arabic and Islamic heritage that qualified it to be crowned as the Capital of Arab Tourism for the year 2015. Sharjah has used its restrictions on public behavior and consumption of alcohol as a competitive advantage in promoting itself as the right destination for family tourism. Sharjah has provided a distinctive combination tourism of attractions and activities that can satisfy different types of tourists from different ages. The number of tourist arrivals to Sharjah has grown by 30% from 2010 to 2014, however the number (about 2 million tourist in 2014) still relatively weak and doesn’t fairly reflect Sharjah aptitudes specially if compared to her sister Emirate Dubai (9 million tourists in 2014). The research sheds light on the tourism attractions and facilities in the emirate and analyzes tourists’ arrivals to Sharjah in the past 5 years. The research then addresses the most important problems that face tourism sector in Sharjah and limit tourists’ arrivals. The paper ends up with providing some recommendations that might help to solve these problems and help to attract more tourists to the emirate.
