Abstract:

The 1930s saw a major recovery in the Arab press in Algeria, where there were many headlines, ranging from political, social, cultural and reformist, helped by the Popular Front in France. The latter expanded the scope of political practice and opened the way for men of politics and reform to express their opinions and attitudes freely. The reformist press played a prominent role in promoting the issues of the nation at that time. the Association of Oulama contributed to the publication of numerous newspapers, which informed Algerian public opinion, despite the pursuit and disruption of the French administration, such as the Sunni and Sharia. Other reformers have also contributed to the establishment of Arab newspapers, most notably Abu Al-Yagzzan, who has founded several newspapers. On the other hand, other Arab newspapers that did not last long, combining politics and reform And in a cynical way that we were not used to in Algerian newspapers at that time. We have taken as case study the newspaper Al-layali (1936-1937) , trying to tackle such issues as the general intent and political direction of the newspaper, the attitude of French authorities towards it, and the extent to which it served the Algerian cause.
