Abstract:

This paper aims to explore the tragic elements in Shakespeare's works and compare them to the Greek tragedies, focusing on the tragic hero, plot, and catharsis. Through an in-depth analysis of Hamlet, Othello, and Macbeth, we find that Shakespeare challenges classical traditions to offer complex insights into the human psyche and social tensions. The study shows that Shakespeare reflects the contradictions of the Renaissance and offers social and cultural critique through his portrayal of characters and relationships. The paper recommends additional comparative studies and a comprehensive analysis of female characters in future tragedies. This study reinforces the importance of comparative analysis in literary studies to understand the development of literary styles and their influence on modern literature.
