Abstract:

The building known as Cimcime Hatun is located within the city walls of Erzurum.

The dome on Cumhuriyet Street is at the North-west side of Ulu Cami. With the

deconstruction of shops and houses surrounding the building the entrance door,

which has not been known until now, was revealed. The two-lined tablet, which is

at three inner sides of the dome’s door opening and at the length of the lintel, is

important for it reveals the owner of the tomb and the date of construction. The

date on the tablet can be clearly read as 704 H./1304 M. A right assumption over

the name of the dome’s owner has not been made due to the break at the last part

of the word. It is possible to read the broken word as “Cencâl, Cengâl, , Cenkâl,

Cîcâl, Cîgâl, Cîkâl, Cühâl, Çengâl, Çiçek, Haccâl, Hancâl, Hankel, Hencâl, Hîcâl,

Hıncâl”. Among them we think the most appropriate is “Cengâl”.

Keywords: Erzurum, Cimcime, Tomb, Cengâl
