Abstract:

After the establishment of the Republic, many steps were taken in the economic, social and cultural fields in order to raise the country to the level of contemporary civilization. In order for these steps to be permanent and transferred from generation to generation, they had to be adopted by the public. Thus, the establishment process of peoples houses would be started by examining examples in other countries. As a result, starting in 1932, Peoples Houses started to be opened all over the country. A branch of the institution, which started to provide important services in the provinces in which it was founded, was opened in Elazığ in 1934. With the establishment of the Fourth General Inspectorate in 1936, Elazığ was incorporated into the inspectorate region and Elazığ Peoples House distinguished itself through its efforts both within the region and across the country. This study examines the process of the Elazığ Peoples Houses establishment, the activities it conducted between 1934 and 1937, and its contributions to the social and cultural development of the province.
