Abstract:

Ankara was declared the capital city on 13 October 1923. Ankara, which is planned to be the model and pioneer city of the modern Turkish Republic, has made significant progress in economic, social and cultural areas. Multi-party system was started in 1946, and 4 years later, with the elections held on 14 May 1950, the Democrat Party came to power and the Democratic Party Period, which will last until the military coup on May 27, 1960, has begun. In the capital Ankara, which is the second largest city of Turkey in terms of population, the Democratic Party won the 1950 and 1954 elections, and the Republican Peoples Party won the 1957 elections. During the Democratic Party period, there were serious changes in administrative, political, social, cultural and economic areas both throughout the country and in Ankara. When compared with 1950, it is seen that significant changes and developments were experienced in Ankaras administrative structure, population, municipal services, economy, politics, education, culture and art structure as of 1960. In this article, the administrative, political, social and economic structure of Ankara will be evaluated in the light of archival documents and official publications during the Democratic Party period.
