Abstract:

 

Human beings work to meet their personal needs, take care of their family, fulfill their responsibilities, provide a better life, secure themselves in the future and gain respect in the society. For these reasons, individuals overwork behaviorally and always think about their jobs mentally. This situation, expressed as workaholicism, has become one of the prominent concepts recently. Although workaholicism may be regarded positively at first glance, it is a concept that needs to be carefully researched to find out what its consequences are both the individual, his/her immediate environment and the institution s/he works for. For being a workaholic increases the employee's interest at work in the short term, but it can cause physiological, psychological and social problems in the long run and reduce productivity. When the individual leads a completely work-centered life, the limits between business and personel life are lifted, and this situation can disrupt the work-life balance and cause many negative situations such as family conflicts. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of workaholicism on work-family conflict. In this context, firstly, the concepts of workaholism and work-family conflict were tried to be explained and the studies dealing with the relationship between the concepts were examined. The hypotheses of the research were formed by taking the findings obtained as a result of the literature review as a reference. In order to test the hypotheses, data were collected from 246 academicians working at various state universities using an online questionnaire. Participants were determined by simple random sampling method and descriptive statistics, confirmatory factor analysis, correlation and regression analysis were used in the analysis of the data obtained. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that workaholism and its dimensions have significant and positive effects on work-family conflict.

 


İnsanoğlu, kişisel ihtiyaçlarını karşılamak, ailesine bakmak, sorumluluklarını yerine getirmek, daha iyi bir yaşam sürdürmek, gelecekte kendisini güvenceye almak veya toplumda saygınlık kazanmak için çalışmaktadır. Söz konusu nedenlerden dolayı bireyler davranışsal olarak aşırı çalışmakta ve zihinsel olarak sürekli işini düşünmektedir. İşkoliklik olarak ifade edilen bu durum son dönemde dikkat çeken kavramlardan biri haline gelmiştir. İşkoliklik ilk bakışta olumlu görülmesine rağmen gerek birey, gerek yakın çevresi, gerekse çalıştığı kurum için sonuçlarının neler olduğu dikkatlice araştırılması gereken önemli bir kavram olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Çünkü işkolik olmak kısa vadede çalışanın işe olan ilgisini artırsa da uzun vadede fizyolojik, psikolojik ve sosyal problemlere yol açarak verimliliği düşürebilmektedir. Birey tamamen iş merkezli bir yaşam sürdürdüğünde ise iş ve özel yaşamı arasındaki sınırlar kalkmakta ve bu durum iş-yaşam dengesini bozarak iş-aile çatışması gibi birçok olumsuzluğa neden olmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı işkolikliğin iş-aile çatışması üzerindeki etkisini belirlemektir. Bu bağlamda, araştırmada öncelikle işkoliklik ve iş-aile çatışması kavramları açıklanmaya çalışılmış ve kavramlar arasındaki ilişkiyi ele alan çalışmalar incelenmiştir. Literatür taraması sonucunda elde edilen bulguları da referans alarak araştırmanın hipotezleri oluşturulmuştur. Hipotezlerin test edilmesi için çeşitli devlet üniversitelerinde görev yapmakta olan 246 akademisyenden çevrimiçi anket kullanılarak veriler toplanmıştır. Katılımcılar basit tesadüfi örnekleme yöntemiyle belirlenmiş ve elde edilen verilerin analizinde betimleyici istatistikler, doğrulayıcı faktör analizi, korelasyon ve regresyon analizleri kullanılmıştır. Yapılan analizler sonucunda, işkoliklik ve boyutlarının iş-aile çatışması üzerinde anlamlı ve pozitif yönde etkilerinin olduğu belirlenmiştir.
