Abstract:

The present article exposes the concept of argumentation not only as a sheer linguistic practice whose aim is contemplation or demonstrating discoursal skills but also as a communicative strategy that is meant for influencing the others. The means of this strategy is language; its end is persuasion and its boundaries –using the words of the Moroccan philosopher Taha Abderrahman – are illocution and perlocution. The former has to do with the addresser’s discoursal behavior which targets a specific goal, however; the latter is related to the possibility of attaining this goal in the course of interacting with the addressee.
