Abstract:

The research aimed to identify the degree of orientation of olive farmers towards ways of adapting to the phenomenon of climate change in the research area, to determine the relationship between it and their studied independent variables, and to determine the contribution of variables with a significant correlation in explaining the total variation. This research was conducted in Siwa Oasis, where a random sample of 238 respondents was selected regularly, representing 10% of the total olive growers in the oasis. The data was collected during the months of September and October of 2023 through personal interviews with the respondents using a questionnaire form. The questionnaire included thirty-nine statements to measure olive growers' attitudes toward ways of adapting to the phenomenon of climate change after ensuring the validity, reliability, and truthfulness of these statements. Frequencies, percentages, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, simple correlation coefficient, and ascending stepwise multiple regression analysis method were used in presenting and analyzing the data. The most important findings of the research were as follow:

The results showed that the percentage of respondents with a neutral approach to ways of adapting to the phenomenon of climate change in the research area amounted to 51.3% of the total number of respondents, and that the percentage of respondents with a favorable approach reached 33.2%, while the percentage of respondents with a non-supportive approach reached 15.5% of the total number of respondents
The results showed a significant relationship at the 0.01 level between the agricultural area holding olive trees, the number of years of experience in cultivating olive trees, the degree of spatial isolation, the degree of tribal leadership, the degree of belonging to the tribal community, the degree of exposure to sources of agricultural information, and the degree of tendency towards agricultural innovations, and the degree of the trend towards agricultural extension and the trend of the olive farmers in ways of adapting to the phenomenon of climate change in the research area. This relationship was significant at the 0.05 level for the number of family members and formal social participation.
The results of the ascending stepwise multiple regression analysis found that there are five studied independent variables, which are: the number of years of experience in growing olive trees, the degree of orientation toward agricultural extension, the degree of exposure to agricultural information sources, the number of family members, and the degree of tribal leadership. Their percentages of contribution to the variance were significant in the total explained trend score. Together, the variables explain 47.3% of the variance in the olive farmers’ attitudes towards ways of adapting to climate changes in the research area.
