Abstract:

This research examines the Arabic Documentary Heritage in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register on the internet: Egypt as a model. There are five Arab countries with UNESCO Memory of the World Register documentaries on the Internet: Egypt, Morocco, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and Tunisia. The Arabic documentaries in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register on the internet according to the ranking of the Arab countries: The collection of manuscripts of the Holy Quran from the Mamluk era at the Egyptian National Library, The arguments of the princes and sultans at the Egyptian National Documents House, Suez Canal documents, Illustrated and Decorated Persian Manuscripts in Egypt, A memorial Testimony from Nahr al-Bared camp, Mount Lebanon, the Phoenician Alphabet in Lebanon, the Ibar manuscripts, the Diwan of Mubtada (subject) and Khabar (predicate) in Morocco, Kufic Calligraphy in Early Islamic Period in Saudi Arabia, Documents of international relations and Piracy from the Council of Trusteeship of the Tunisian Throne in the 18th and 19th centuries in Tunisia, a descriptive and analytical study.
The research aims to list Arab countries that have a documentary heritage to the UNESCO Memory of the World Register, make an inventory of Arab and Egyptian documentary heritage in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register, and carry a descriptive-analytical study on the Egyptian documentary heritage. It also aims to encourage the Arab States that do not have a share in the Memory of the World Register to research and explore their heritage and (find out) what can be registered in the UNESCO Memory of the world register besides encouraging the Arab countries who already have a share of the documentary heritage in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register for more collections.
One of the most important results of the research is the presence of five Arab countries with a documentary heritage in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register on the Internet: Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Morocco, and Lebanon, with a total of nine documentary collections. Egypt surpasses other Arab countries in the number of documentary collections recorded in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register on the internet. These are four: manuscripts of the Holy Quran of the Mamluk era, the arguments of the princes and sultans, documents of the Suez Canal, and Persian manuscripts. There are no internet sites for all documentary collections recorded in UNESCO's Memory of the World, such as Arguments of princes and sultans and manuscripts of the Holy Quran, except the memory of the Suez Canal. This contradicts the goals, vision, and mission of the UNESCO Memory of the World Online Documentary Heritage Programme with regard to freedom of access and availability.
The most important research recommendations include that every Arab country should examine its documentary collections and register at least one collection in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register on the internet. The five Arab countries with a UNESCO Memory of the World Register on the Internet — Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Morocco, and Lebanon — must register more documentary collections and not be content with what is currently recorded. Each UNESCO Memory of the World Register documentary collection should have a website for access and availability, taking into account intellectual property rights such as Suez Canal documents.
