Abstract:
This intervention aims to analyze the patterns associated with the expatriate hero in the novel Bitter Honey by the young Algerian writer Djilali Lalila. The stages of analysis are formed through approaching and criticizing the discourses present in the text, which reflect the condition of a large group of Algerian youth dreaming of emigrating, along with the psychological, social and cultural theories that affect their lives. In particular, issues of alienation, illegal immigration, identity, the image of the other, and even globalization. The study begins, according to the content of the novel, from the causes of illegal immigration and the condition of the expatriate young man within his native country, leading to the embodiment of the idea of immigration through illegal and immoral methods and the crystallization of psychological alienation within the context of the identity of the other. The analysis concluded that the disturbance of the ego image and the distorted formation of identity is the main reason for the manifestation of Alienation in this way and with this critical lesson in the novel.
