Abstract:

The exchange rate is one of the economic and financial indicators that express the quality of any country's economic performance. The exchange rate represents the backbone upon which the economies of any country of the world depend, whether from developed or developing countries. Therefore, most governments seek to adopt policies aimed at ensuring the stability of the exchange rate of their currencies to avoid the sharp fluctuations that currencies go through from time to time. The exchange rate also plays a prominent role in monetary policy because it is used as a goal, as a tool, or simply as an indicator of countries' competitiveness through its impact on economic growth components such as investment and the degree of openness to international trade. Therefore, this study's main objective was an attempt to identify the nature of the exchange rate, so in the first chapter, we dealt with the concept of monetary policy, its most important tools, and objectives. In the second chapter, we dealt with the theoretical framework of the exchange rate and Egypt's experience in the field of exchange during the period (1990-2017). Then, in the third section, we dealt with the impact of monetary policy on stabilizing the Egyptian pound's exchange rate against the US dollar through two models, the first partial adjustment of the exchange rate, and the second vector error correction model. The study concluded with some recommendations to reduce exchange rate fluctuations.
