Abstract:

Sheikh Suleyman is one of the sufi poets who wrote Kurdish poetry in the twentieth century. He has three poems in Kurdish as well as Arabic and Persian. However, these three poems are not included in his written divan. Moreover, these poems have not been transliterated into Latin letters until now. Therefore, Sheikh Suleymans Kurdish poetry has not been the subject of research until now. In this article, we will transcribe these three Kurdish poems of Sheikh Suleiman in Latin letters for the first time. Sheikh Suleymans first Kurdish poem was published in 1919 in Istanbul. The subject of this poem, titled Vîna Weten, is love for the homeland. Accordingly, Sheikh Suleyman was a contemporary of Abdurrahim Rahmi Hakari in Kurdish poetry. The style and understanding of poetry of these two poets are also close to each other. Another Kurdish poem of Sheikh Suleyman is included in an Arabic letter to Sayyid Ali Findiki. Sheikh Suleymans third and last Kurdish poem is the elegy he wrote on the death of Sheikh Zeynelabidin. In this study, we will first give brief information about Sheikh Suleymans life. Then we will analyze these three Kurdish poems in terms of content and form. Our aim in this study is to publish these unknown poems of the poet, and to ensure that the Sheikh Suleyman finds his place in the history of Kurdish literature.
