Abstract:

The study aims to determine the level of union commitment of health workers who are members of the union and the factors affecting this commitment. This research is a descriptive study conducted on 320 health workers who are members of a civil servant union in Konya. In the study, the Union Loyalty Scale and a questionnaire containing demographic questions were used as data collection tools. In the research, 56,5 of the participants stated that they would be a member of the union even if they paid the union dues themselves; 38,8 of them participated in union activities; 51,4 stated that the union was effective in promotion and 50,9 stated that the union was effective in appointment. In addition, 39,6 of the participants stated that the union was not effective in solving its members problems and 45,6 stated that the union was not effective in collective negotiations. No significant difference was found in terms of the sub-dimensions of commitment to the union and marital status, the working year, first-time union membership, and education. As a result, male participants and those working in administrative services had high levels of commitment to the union. It has been determined that as union membership duration and age increase, union commitment increases. Trade unions should strive to increase members confidence in their unions.
