Abstract:

Zygmunt Bauman, who stands out as a philosopher as well as a sociologist, is among the most important critics of modernity that developed after the enlightenment. According to him, with the collapse of the traditional moral authority of the Church, and a new moral authority emerged. The new moral authority is the philosopher, the representative of modern reason, with the task of building universal ethical codes against aporia. However, according to Bauman, the modern philosopher has undertaken an impossible task. In the article, Baumans thoughts on the modern search for a universal ethical code that developed against moral aporia and the postmodern moral crisis that emerged with the failure of this search for an ethical code were examined. The first part of the article, which consists of two main parts, focused on Baumans analyzes on modern morality. The second part of the article focuses on the failure of modernity and his thoughts on the aporetic morality of postmodernity, which is essentially a new phase of modernity, and the new problems that this morality raises.
