Abstract:

The earliest wooden minbar in Trabzon belongs to Orta Hisar Fatih Mosque that
construction activities started with the conquest of 1461. Except for this minbar, other minbars in
the city were mostly built in the 19th century. Moreover, because of the abundance of materials, the use of wood in handcrafts is seen intensely in the city of Trabzon. There are nine minbars with stil-life on the surface which are in The Ottoman Mosques in Trabzon. Three of the minbars are in Dernekpazarı, two are in Çaykara, two are in
Hayrat, one is in Of, one is in Maçka. These minbars, which are all made of wood, are small size
village minbars which have the features of late period as well as traditional features. Only one of
these minbars has a inscription and is dated 1811. Other minbars are dated the same date according
to thedecoratingprogramas similarminibars or themosques theybuilt.Basedonthis,it is thought
that the six were built at the beginning of the 19th century and the two at the end of the century.
The minbars which are examined, while they are separated from the classical minibars in terms
of their elements, reflect the characteristic of the period in terms of their decorative features. In
all the minbars, carving technique was used. Each of the still-life seen on the minbars surface is
a panel. Six of the Still-life designs are on the surface of the stern board, two of them are on the
door, one is on the surface of the pavilions. In all of the still-life designs flowers are carved coming
out from a vase, a pitcher or bowl. Most of these flowers are tulips and in some composition there
are grape bunches and daisy along with tulips. In other still-life, unlike the others, acanthes leaves
appear from a vases. In addition, blank surfaces for the still-life are filled with flowers and leaves
without any gaps.
In this study, the decorating and technical features of each minbar will be introduced
in details. Furthermore, the specification of the minbars in Trabzon which still-life designs were
performed will be analyzed. Also their importance on the art history and Turkish art will be
defined by evaluating the characteristics of still-life designs on the surface.

tarihli ahşap minber Orta Hisar Fatih Camisine aittir.
de Of ilçesindedir.
görülen natürmortlardan her birisi birer pano niteliğindedir.
